Call or Delete, Prank Wars - if you listen to Radio 1 you'll know crank calls are alive and well.

So if you got a call from, say, the Pope, you might be a bit sceptical.

Franco Rabuffi was. So he hung up. Twice.

The Italian had written to Pope Francis to tell him about an illness, but wasn't expecting a response.

So when he got a call on April 27, he thought it was a joke.

As it happens, the pontiff often contacts strangers who write to him, according to Vatican newspaper l'Osservatore Romano.

In this case, he was calling Franco to comfort him. And, to his credit, when he got cut off, the Pope just tried again. Twice.

On the third call, when he realised what he'd done, Rabuffi finally took him seriously.

He told l'Osservatore Romano: "I was speechless but Francis came to my rescue, saying that what had happened was funny."

Clearly pretty keen to make amends, Rabuffi and his wife appeared before the pope during the Vatican's general audience on Wednesday and personally apologised for the mistake.

Lucky there's that whole forgiveness thing.
